The Stratford Tennis Club Newsletter - August 2010 • Last report tells us that many of our members (Pierce, Mary Ann, Faye, Anne, Zach, Suzanne & Henry, Virginia Rojas, Ray Ware, and Charlie Mantooth) are on the mend. We sadly said goodbye to one of our founders and friend, Joe Stendig. • Marianna Jarrett and the Junior's Committee completed its first summer of clinics for children ages 5 – 12. Nineteen boys and girls braved the “sizzlin” sun to begin their adventure in learning to play tennis. Marianna was helped by Donna Goad, Xavier Ruiz, Neda Haymore, Lisa Owen, and Lemma Hooks. • Marianna will provide a clinic for the ladies each Tuesday and Friday mornings. All ladies are encouraged to “check it out!” Call her if you want to improve your game! • Let's give a big STC “Thank You” to Julio Rojas for putting new supports under the deck. He also joined forces with Scott Ehrhardt, Monte Deel, and Gary Beyer in cleaning out some trees and underbrush to provide a cool – shaded area for visitors to watch the USTA Tournament. • The Board of Directors held its monthly meeting on August 16 working on up-dating the Articles of Incorporation and STC By-Laws. Some exciting changes are in the works. Keep listening and watching for details. Special thank you to Sam Kushner, Susan Mier, Willis Donelson and Neda Haymore for working on the revisions. • Some of you have asked....and the Board has answered with a policy for the pro-rating of dues for the 2010 Season. Beginning September 1/2010 – a person may join STC to play tennis for a cost of $120. This pro-rated fee allows new members to play at STC from September 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011. Regular dues would be payable on April 1, 2011. • Mixed Doubles Tournament was held August 23 with 20 members vying for the coveted title of “Mixed Doubles Champions.” One of our long time members, John Collins sponsored the event with $200 to be used for food and t-shirts. John Collins teamed up with Lemma Hooks and defeated three time champions Scot & Lisa Harrison. Joe & Susan Mier won the consolation division defeating Donna Goad and Lee Chandler. Other teams were Lisa Owen & Gary Beyer, Neda Haymore & Dan Adams, Kim Ferguson & Johnny Melton, Jim Moyer & Sue Franklin, Linda & Wayne Martin and Kamela & Monte Deel. • Suzanne Reynolds, social chairperson organized the August 29 party celebrating the success of the Mixed Doubles Tournament. Approximately 35 members enjoyed food, fun, and fellowship complete with homemade ice cream provided by Kay Burton and Lisa Owen. • Watch for results of Doubles and Singles Competition playing out in September!
